Everyone and everything has an origination story. Feral and Fabulous started like all good ideas…a simple comment.
“You should do a podcast,” I said after watching a particularly boring podcast that I didn’t enjoy.
Kim looked at me and said, “we should!”
And with that, we were off to the races.
Simple Idea, So Much to Learn
Somewhere in June, we started talking more regularly about the idea. Kim started sending me clips of Call Her Daddy and I kept trying to convince her that Not Today, Pal was the funniest show out there.
The more we watched, the more it came up in daily conversation. By June 2025, we were in full blown planning mode and I was down the rabbit hole learning more about audio than I did after 14 years in the music business.
What color should the room be? What mics will we use? Do we want multi-cameras? How many guests will be on at once? So. Many. Questions.
More Importantly, What Should We Call It?
Text messages would ding at 10pm and 8am – a new idea for a name. Some googling and research. No. Too common. Already used by someone big. Too many syllables. Hard to remember. Too simple.
Because we work in real estate, there were a lot of attempts to fit “real” into things. Real Talk. Real-Tea (get it?). Real This, That, and the Other Thing. None of them felt good. They felt too obvious. Too sterile. Too confining.
The goal was never to make a show just about real estate. The goal was to make a podcast about life that happened to be hosted by someone who is in the real estate industry. Would real estate be a topic? Of course. But so would celebrities, current events, travel, food, and life.
Enter the Honey Badger
Years ago, when the honey badger video was still making the rounds, we would often joke that Kim was the honey badger – focused, no-nonsense, and ready to kick ass if need be. I think her husband, Dave, even bought her a t-shirt.
(If you’ve never seen the honey badger video, here it is…probably NSFW just so you’re fairly warned. Depends on where you work I suppose.)
We loved the idea of bringing back the honey badger, but found that any use of the name made the name of the show feel complicated and heavy. Too many syllables in the wrong places. The Honey Badger Podcast just didn’t feel right.
Don’t Count Dave Out
Kim, Dave, and I were sitting in their office discussing the name problem. I could see Dave googling random things to try and make it work and then he quietly said it: feral and fabulous.
I was instantly convinced that was the name of the show.
Without a doubt.
I just knew it was the one.
Kim, on the other hand, took some convincing.
But it eventually stuck. I did some name checks. URLs, social media, that kind of stuff. It looked like we could make it work (although we did have to shorten some of our social media handles to @feralandfab just to make it work).
So here we are. Feral and fabulous (and yes, Kim is both). We hope you enjoy it.
