Capturing Life Through the Lens with Nathaniel Muhleman
Welcome to another episode of Feral and Fabulous! Today, we dig into the captivating world of photography with our guest, Nathaniel Muhleman. A photographer with a unique and diverse portfolio, Nathaniel shares his journey from taking family photographs to becoming a renowned photographer capturing a wide array of subjects, from wildlife to weddings.
From Family Moments to Professional Mastery
Nathaniel’s journey into the world of photography began in a beautifully organic way. Though he never met his grandfather, a photographer with a darkroom in Virginia, Nathaniel’s father preserved the passion for photography by sharing slideshows of landscapes and family memories. With this legacy as inspiration, Nathaniel picked up a camera to capture precious moments of his newborn daughter. Friends quickly noticed his talent, asking him to photograph their families and events, which led to the blossoming of his photography business.
Exploring the Wild Through the Lens
One of the most profound segments of Nathaniel’s career involves his work with Disabled Outdoorsman, where he documents hunts for families and assists young adults with disabilities in experiencing the healing powers of the outdoors. This venture has not only captured unique moments but also deeply impacted Nathaniel’s own life, aligning his photography work with a mission of empowerment and appreciation for nature.
Diverse Styles and Clientele
Nathaniel distinguishes himself by working across a variety of styles and clients, from various Black Rifle Coffee Comapny side projects to law firms like the Jeff Davis Law Firm. His love for authentic, unstaged photography shines through as he incorporates his touch in every project, whether documenting a comedy series with up-and-coming comedians or capturing the raw emotion of farmers and ranchers.
Balancing Art and Family
Being a dedicated family man, Nathaniel works hard to balance his professional ambitions with time at home. He freely admits the challenge of turning off his creative brain during family vacations but emphasizes the importance of preserving memories through photographs, especially given his concern about memory gaps from earlier sports injuries.
The Future of Photography with AI
As technological advances like AI become more prevalent, Nathaniel embraces these tools to enhance productivity rather than replace human creativity. He implements AI to strategically plan shoots, but insists that the human element of connection and interpretation remains irreplaceable.
A Deep Love for Travel and Exploration
While Nathaniel’s favorite destination, Terlingua, Texas – a serene, evocative spot near Big Bend National Park – provides him with the perfect backdrop for his art and family bonding, he dreams of exploring and photographing the landscapes of Wyoming.
Reflecting Passion in Every Photo
Whether chasing the perfect shot on a farm, capturing an unscripted moment at a wedding, or photographing an introspective moment during a golf tournament, Nathaniel’s work spans a range of emotions and experiences, always striving to capture true essence through his lens.
Nathaniel Muhleman exemplifies a passionate professional who has harnessed his craft to tell compelling stories, bring awareness to causes, and leave a lasting impact on his clients. We thank Nathaniel for sharing his insights and stories with us today on Feral and Fabulous.
